A Fun & Funny Armenian Fest

October 3, 2018

The AGBU Pasadena-Glendale (P-G) Chapter hosted yet another fun-filled weekend during the 4th Annual Armenian Fest. The Armenian Fest kicked off on Friday, September 28, 2018 with competitive sports and activities for the youth. Various Armenian club and school children participated in the opening night sports games competing against the AGBU AYA Pasadena-Glendale Chapter teams. While the youth enjoyed competitive sports and Fornite Battle Royal on PS4 & Xbox, younger children enjoyed a Disney castle jumper/slider on the grass. The sports committee made sure to keep the parents entertained with a delicious BBQ and drinks all through the night.

The highlight of the weekend was on Saturday, September 29, 2018, when after a long day of more competitive games, the parents had a good laugh with The Big Bad Armo Show: Summer Vacation. The Big Bad Armo Show: Summer Vacation, which is written and created by an AGBU NYSIP alumnus, Lory Tatoulian, is a hilarious comedy that humorously portrays Armenians who have moved to and live in the United States. The cast which includes Mary Basmadjian, Helen Kalognomos, Ludwig Manukian, just to name a few, did an incredible job at keeping the laughs going throughout the evening. The sold-out show was the first live performance at the new state-of-the-art AGBU Vatche & Tamar Manoukian Performing Arts Center.

The closing ceremony took place on Sunday, September 30, 2018. The final games were played after which the AGBU Los Angeles San Fernando Valley (LA-SFV) Chapter Marching Band led the athletes to the gym. Once in their positions, the Marching Band performed excellent renditions of the anthems for America, Armenia and AGBU. Following the performances, the AGBU P-G Chapter Chair, Krikor Demirjian thanked everyone for attending and extended his heartfelt appreciation to the staff and volunteers who worked tirelessly to make the weekend a success. Last but not least Demirjian thanked AGBU LA-SFV Chapter Chair, Hrag Ohanessian, for bringing the Marching Band and athletes together for this special weekend. AGBU Western District Chair, Talin Yacoubian, was also in attendance and recognized the hard work and efforts of the Chapters. After all participating athletes received their medals, Demirjian, Ohanessian, and Yacoubian awarded medals to the coaches and members of both Chapter’s Sports Committees.
