On Saturday, November 3, 2018, the AGBU Satamian Theatre Group celebrated the 40th anniversary of its founding with the revival of Carlo Goldoni’s 18th century comedy “The Liar.” The play was performed four times to near capacity audiences in the newly renovated 620 seat Vatche and Tamar Manoukian Performing Arts Center in Pasadena, CA. The performance received rave reviews in all local newspapers.

The 30-member cast and crew included a large number of young recruits, among them three alumni and four current students of the AGBU Vatche and Tamar Manoukian High School. The selection of “The Liar” to celebrate the 40thanniversary was not random. The play has a lot of sentimental value as it was the first production of the AGBU Vahram Papazian Theatre Group in Beirut (1959), the first production of the AGBU Ardashad Theatre Group in New York (1978), and the first full-length production of Ardavazt Theatre Group in Los Angeles (1981).

The AGBU Satamian Theatre Group will continue celebrating its 40th anniversary with two more productions in 2019 and a gala evening on Saturday, September 14, 2019. That gala will be a sit-down dinner accompanied by an award ceremony. More details to come soon.
