On Friday, August 2, 2019, AGBU Camp Amaras concluded its eighth year of summer day camp. All camp families were invited to “Bardez” Night that evening where the Camp celebrated the completion of another successful year. The seven-week camp enjoyed having numerous returning campers and welcomed a large number of new kids to the AGBU family.
Each year, the camp team coordinates unique activities, field trips, and projects for the campers that align with the weekly themes. The themes for Summer 2019 included: Lost in Space, Fit! Fab! Fun!, Secret Spy Society, Under the Sea, Craft & Create, Wild About the Wild, and Duxov! week. Campers explored different attractions in Los Angeles during their field trips, including the Aquarium of the Pacific, Kidspace, Jump n Jammin, among other exciting interactive outings. Special guests also made appearances to entertain and engage the campers including magician Tenny Kachatourian, author Rostom Sarkissian, and the Pasadena Fire Department.
“We continuously aim to enhance the caliber of the program we offer. We’re working with kids and it’s difficult to keep them engaged and interested. Our team did a wonderful job with developing activities and projects to pique the campers’ interests and spark their creativity. I’m very proud of our camp staff and I especially applaud our Director and Program Manager, Lara Armani and Nairy Tatlian, for their hard work and dedication to making camp extra special this year” shared Suzanna Sargsyan, Manager of Western District Programs. These sentiments were strongly supported by numerous parents who complimented the program multiple times throughout the summer, highlighting the consistent growth from prior years.
Camp Amaras serves kids ages 3 – 12 and entertains its campers through exciting indoor and outdoor activities including sports, music, chess, computer coding, arts & crafts, cooking, and project based learning focused on STEM, among other activities. The camp will return next summer and applications to enroll children will open early in the new year.
