October 16, 2019

Pasadena, CA – The AGBU Western District is pleased to announce the AGBU Los Angeles (LA) Choir’s inaugural concert, which will take place on Sunday, November 17, 2019 at 6:00 pm at the AGBU Vatche & Tamar Manoukian Performing Arts Center.

Established by the AGBU Western District (WD) in November of 2018, the AGBU LA Choir brings together more than 25 members from various backgrounds including graduate students and professionals specializing in the field of music and choral studies. In January of 2019, the choir enjoyed their introductory performance at the AGBU WD sponsored concert honoring Arno Babajanyan.

The AGBU Los Angeles Choir is conducted by the distinguished Maestro Gayane Baghdasaryan, a graduate of the Komitas State Conservatory of Yerevan. Maestro Baghdasaryan earned her PhD/DMA in Choral Conducting under the guidance of esteemed Professor Hekekyan. Baghdasaryan began her career in 1998 as a professor in choral conducting. She has served as the choir master of multiple notable groups including, the Armenian State Radio and TV Chamber Choir, Arega Youth Choir, and Sayat Nova Music school Children’s choir. Baghdasaryan has also taken part in international tours to Denmark, France, Russia, Georgia, Syria, Egypt and Cyprus.

“The driving force behind the formation of the AGBU LA Choir was the desire to inspire the community through quality Armenian music and the pursuit of artistic excellence in choral music performances,” stated Garine Seuylemezian, Chair of the AGBU LA Choir Committee. “Maestro Baghdasaryan has thoughtfully curated a repertoire that will take the audience on a journey through the ages – from the timeless masterpieces of Komitas, to the folksongs of the Armenian highland and finally to glittering city lights of Yerevan with jazzy selections from the mid 20th century,” continued  Tania ( Alto). “Maestro Baghdasaryan’s expertise coupled with her electrifying dynamism is simply gripping, leaving the audience in awe of her talent and enchanted by the passion she channels to the choir members,” concluded Seuylemezian.
