Volunteer Appreciation Night 2019

December 26, 2019

On December 19, 2019, the AGBU Western District hosted its annual Volunteer Appreciation Night.

AGBU Western District Committee Chair, Talin Yacoubian opened the program with a warm welcome and expressed gratitude on behalf of the District for all of the volunteers who had devoted their time to this organization throughout 2019. Yacoubian’s speech was followed by the AGBU LA Choir surprising the attendees as they took the stage to sing a few songs from their repertoire.

Later in the evening, Yacoubian revisited the stage to make a special announcement. The end of 2019 marked the Western District Committee’s fifth year of service. One by one, Yacoubian recognized each of the nine members on the board and awarded them plaques, thanking them for their dedication.

Over the last five years, this District Committee has hosted a record number of events including two memorable, sold out galas in 2015 and 2017, a historic 110th Anniversary event, and premiered two films including Crows of the Desert in 2016 and The Promise in 2017. In 2019 alone, the WDC hosted two major concerts “A Classical Evening in Honor of Arno Babajanian” and “The Gurdjieff Ensemble.” Moreover, they established the AGBU Los Angeles Choir, which had their successful debut concert in November, totaling three large concerts in one year. The Committee held their second annual District Conference in October 2019, following the inaugural event in Las Vegas in 2018. Beyond these remarkable accomplishments, this committee launched the Los Angeles Media Internship Program, which has grown year after year, creating three strong alumni cohorts; LAMIP will be entering its fourth year in June 2020. These are only a few of the District level events and programs that have taken place over the course of the last five years, not including the countless events hosted by the chapters and committees that fall under the auspices of the Western District.

For the remainder of the evening, festive Christmas music continued to fill Boyajian Hall while the committees celebrated their successful year. The photobooth came to life as cheerful volunteers gathered inside its puffy walls to immortalize the evening.
