It is with immense sadness we were informed of the passing of AGBU-AYA veteran member, Mr. Hratch Manoukian, who became yet another victim to the cruel virus wreaking havoc throughout the world.
As an AGBU member at an early age, Hratch started as athletic director at the AGBU Hovaguimian-Manoogian Secondary School for Boys and assumed leadership positions wherever he resided, be it in Lebanon, Cyprus, or the U.S. He served as Board member of the AGBU-AYA Lebanon Central Committee, member of the AGBU Pan Armenian Navasartian Games Committee, Board member of the AGBU Melkonian Educational Institute, Board member of the AGBU LA Veterans committee and a faithful member of the ADLP Roupen Herian Chapter, San Fernando Valley, CA.
Hratch was everybody’s friend. He was fun to be with socially, during travel or at AGBU-AYA committee meetings. He had a jovial character, a sharp wit, and a pleasant sense of humor. He would never miss an opportunity to liven up a meeting with friends, family, or even strangers.
While residing in Cyprus, Hratch executed the benevolence of AGBU he so deeply believed in, by providing assistance to many families who escaped the Lebanese civil war by helping them find temporary shelters, livelihood, and school for their children.
Hratch will be greatly missed. On behalf of the AGBU Western District, the AGBU Los Angeles Veterans Committee, the AGBU Chapters of San Fernando and Pasadena/Glendale, and the Krikor Satamian Theatre Group, we convey our heartfelt condolences to his son, Alec, and daughter, Tamar, and their families and to the entire AGBU family. May God rest him in eternal peace.
